Host Family & the Holidays

Odie & Me

Ellen, Jonny, Me

Christmas is complete, New Years here we come!

I had a wonderful Christmas Eve at our cabin with my mom before a 9pm candlelight service, and a very warm and sunny Christmas day at my dads with lots of wine & seafood (Two of my favorite things)! I’m heading back to Winona tomorrow for one last hurrah and when I get back it will be 4 days until New Years and soon I’ll be leaving on the 6th! Time is flying by.

I’m a huge bundle of anxiety, but SO EXCITED! While at the cabin, my mom ran upstairs to where I was sleeping and stood over me waving her phone in the air saying she had just gotten the email with my host family information. I could tell she really wanted to learn about them because the signal at the cabin is so bad that you have to stand in the EXACT same area for at least 5 minutes to download any sort of email. We impatiently read through it together and were both really happy with my family.

Let me tell you the little bit I know about them! They are both in their early 50s around my dad’s age. I would say my mom AND dads age, but my mom refuses to be grouped with people in the 50s while she’s still in her (late) 40s...I love you lots if you’re reading this, mama!.... ANYWHO

My host moms name is Elba and evidently she cooks wonderful traditional Spanish dishes J I can’t wait to try them! My host dad is Juan Miguel and he works as a computer engineer. They have one son who is 31 and lives very close by; he is also a computer engineer. I’m a little sad that I currently don’t have a roommate; I have never been an only child or lived in a pet less household, but I’m happy to have the experience!! The apartment is right in the center of town and only a 10-minute walk from my school.

I’ll update with more information as it comes J

I hope you all had a fantastic food filled holiday!!
