Listen to Dad
"You're going to get burnt to a crisp" my dad said. "I'm fine, its a hazy cloudy day!", I responded. "Emily. You WILL get burnt, the rays go straight through the clouds" "I'll be careful" "No you won't"
I'm a crispy shade of red close to the sauce thats been on all of the spaghetti we've been eating.
I can't say I'm proud of it, and i'm hoping with the proper application of aloe it will be tan in no time…but one can only hope. "Listen to dad" applies in all countries I guess.
A few things that are actually a lot different from the US:
Laundry. There are absolutely no dryers here. Plenty of washers, but all the clothes that are washed are hung up and air dried. This is difficult for me to understand because I usually wait until I'm three loads of laundry deep before doing the wash and theres definitely not enough room in my apartment at school or house to do that!
Speedos. I've been seeing a lot of speedos on the beach recently, nothing like in the US where even the shorter shorts are frowned upon. Short shorts and Speedos seem to be the European way.
Bidet. A bidet in every bathroom big or small no matter how crappy (ha) or proper the establishment (Dad is already researching the closest store that sells them for when were back on US soil)
milkshakes. It COULD be a coincidence, but 2 out of 2 times I have ordered a strawberry milkshake it was just foamy strawberry milk. It literally seemed like they shook up the milk. Wheres the Ice cream?!
It all seems very literal, my sister ordered a hot chocolate, and it was warmed up chocolate. Who knows.
Gelato. AFTER ALMOST EVERY MEAL. Im trying to think of a day where we have gone without getting any gelato after one of our meals. The only day i can think of is today, and we have plans to get some after dinner.
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner. Everything is later here, its common for us to have dinner between 7 and 9 o clock on weeknights.
Freshhhh. There is a fresh fruit/food market every few blocks every where we seem to go. Its delicious and wonderful and makes walmart produce seem incredibly hellish.
I could list more but i need to treat my sunburn, and then head out for more sunshine, gelato, and a mint mojito.
