Explorar
Yesterday (Saturday) I slept in and had lunch with my
family, then spent some time exploring the city with my friends Peter, Sam, and
Chris. We walked in the area where their houses are close to the “river”. I say
“river” because currently its about 2 inches deep at any given point, but I’ve
been told it will become more river like as the months go on.

We stopped for
churros & chocolate and tried out some gelato from a local store. It was
all delicious. I’m glad that everything we have to do we need to walk to,
because otherwise all of this great food could be trouble. I assume that’s why
exchange students who come to the US gain so much weight, lots of food but
almost no walking. I’m realizing how dependent I was to have a car back in
Minnesota and Wisconsin, and how often I used it even when something was within
walking distance, granted most of the time this was due to the frigid
temperatures that Spain isn’t lucky enough to experience the joy of.

I came back to the apartment for dinner with my family at 9,
we had sandwiches and they had a special sauce on them (kind of chipotle like?)
that I really enjoyed, For dessert we had a chocolate pudding with whipped cream
on it. I met up with the majority of our SOL group to go out for tapas and
drinks around 10, the meeting place we generally use is Burger King. It’s right
in the center of town and is the only fast food place I’ve seen so far. Its
crazy how we all have to set a solid meeting time and a destination and then BE
THERE because there isn’t a way to communicate that we aren’t coming or are
going to be late after we are out of a wifi (weee feeeee) zone. We started at a
bar a 10 minute walk away from the town center, the tapas were potato fries and
chicken wings, its hard to eat chicken wings here because everyone gets the
meat off of them with a fork and a knife and I have absolutely no skill in that
art. It hurts my heart that I can’t just pick it up!!! To further this the
other day I had to eat a banana with a fork. Hopefully I’ll get better at this
throughout the coming months! Anywho, after tapas we all separated ways and a
group of us went to a bar called “Bronx” for more drinks, it was speakeasy
themed and had lots of fun pictures and interesting music. The drinks there
were very very sweet compared to the other places, but no complaints here!
Today I’m enjoying my Sunday before another week of classes,
I’m meeting up with my friends after lunch and we’ll do more exploring and
hopefully walk up to the Alhambra J
